DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY

Welcome to Computer Technology Department, established in 1989/90 Session. The Department runs both National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programme in Computer Science. The HND programme was accredited in 2000. The Department is one of the fastest growing departments in the College in the School of Technology. Apart from running both ND and HND programmes, the department also offers certificate courses in Information Technology and Information Maintenance, which is a short-term course, with well experienced and versatile lecturers.

VISON STATEMENT

To be the leading IT department by providing training in the theory and application of computer science to our students, who are empowered to make a positive impact in the society.

MISSION STATEMENT

To produce Computer Science graduates, worthy in skill and character, who are academically equipped and capable of applying Computer Science and Information Technology in solving problems societal problem.

OBJECTIVES

National Diploma (ND) graduates of this programme should be able to:

  1. Operate Computer systems
  2. Use various Computer packages
  3. Maintain hardware
  4. Solve simple hardware problems
  5. Use Internet
  6. Set up Computer Network
  7. Set up and manage an enterprise Computer Based Information System (CBIS)
  8. Use various programming languages:
  • Visual BASIC
  • JAVA
  • C Programming
  • Unified Modelling Language (UML)
  • Hyper Text Mark-up Language

Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates of this programme should be able to:

  1. Manage and optimise Operating Systems
  2. Design and implement programs for solving problems
  3. Manage computer installations and ICT centres
  4. Troubleshoot Computer Installations.
  5. Carry out routine maintenance of Computer facilities
  6. Setup and manage Network Systems
  7. Design and manage Database systems
  8. Expand Business Enterprise

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

ND Requirements

Five O’ level Credit passes at SSCE or its equivalent examination, which must include: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any one out of the following in not more than 2 sittings:

  • Statistics
  • Geography
  • Further Mathematics
  • Economics
  • Biology
  • Computer Studies / Data Processing

UTME SUBJECTS: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry

HND Requirements

All SSCE or its Equivalent Examination requirements for admission into the National Diploma programme in Computer Science and

A minimum of Lower credit pass at National Diploma award in Computer Science from an institution that has earned NBTE Accreditation plus One Year Post-ND cognate work experience or

A pass at ND in Computer Science with at least Two Years Post-ND Cognate work experience.
